A simple form of mental provocation (see also provocation technique) is the lunge technique. It is based on the approach that in order to come up with new ideas, one must also consider those aspects that are otherwise taken for granted. Here, too, the auxiliary word Po from Edward de Bono’s provocation technique is used in order to make it clear that an intentional mental provocation is involved.
It is especially helpful when certain processes or preconceived notions make creative engagement difficult. If precisely those considerations that are taken for granted are reviewed by lunge, it is precisely through this that deadlocked procedures or methods can be revised and renewed.
