“Cherry splitting” – cherry splitting – breaks a challenge into individual aspects that can be re-contextualized in relation to each other again and again to generate new, alternative ideas.

First, the challenge is described by reducing it to two terms. This is how this technique got its name: It went around the improvement of cherry picking.

Each term is “split” into two more. A graphic is created in which two lines are drawn from each term to associations to it.

The term “cherries” was divided into “sensitive” and “separate”. “Picking” in “remove” and “transport”. The four associations became eight in the next level: “Sensitive” was associated with “damaged” and “blemish.” “Separate” with “select” and “proximity to each other”, “remove” with “touch and hold” and “pick up”, and “transport” was divided into “ground” and “boxes”. Now the terms can be put into any combination that inspires to improve the process of cherry picking.

This technique is applicable alone or in a group. Cherry Split allows you to break down the inhibiting, fixed unity of a challenge to recombine individual attributes.
