Lightning Decision Jam

Lightning Decision Jam proceeds in several steps and serves to better structure and shorten decisions.

A Lightning Decision Jam is a decision-making technique developed by the AJ/Smart agency. It is based on the Design Thinking method and consists of several steps.

It helps to better structure and shorten decisions. Special focus is placed on ensuring that the decision is made democratically and that the opinions of the participants are integrated. Long discussions without a concrete decision focus should thus be avoided. The method can be used whenever a group of people needs to solve challenges or problems and make decisions.

Lightning Decision Jam is based on the principles of the Design Sprint method:

– Starting is more important than being right – We work together, but alone
– Do not rely on creativity
– Concrete beats abstract

The ideal participant size is four to six people; a maximum of 8 participants is recommended.

A Lightning Decision Jam typically lasts between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours, depending on the number of participants and the number of problems being worked.

Material needed:

– Post-it’s (rectangular) in yellow
– Post-it’s (square) in two different colors

– Adhesive dots in two different colors
– free wall space or pin board
– Pens

Lightning Decision Jam can also be conducted in remote work situations, using a digital web collaboration tool/whiteboard.

The result of the method are concrete work steps for a solution of the problem.
