The lot method is a creative technique in which participants draw lots with terms on them that are unexpected and far from the actual topic of the given challenge. Participants should empathize and immerse themselves in these conceptualizations.

When developing new product ideas, it is very useful during the brainstorming process to approach thematically from different angles: for example, via the development of personas and target groups, the collection of characteristics, or even via the creation of emotional values that are to characterize the later product.

Especially in this initial phase of idea generation, “spinning” and “thinking around corners” is important to come up with as many aspects as possible – the lot method offers a nice opportunity here.
