The goal of action-based learning is for employees to acquire the knowledge necessary to complete tasks while working on a project.

Action learning (also action-based learning) is a method of experiential learning (“learning by doing”) in companies. In an action learning program, a team works on a specific project relevant to the company while reflecting on the learning process in the project.

In this process, an interdisciplinary group of people first analyzes a problem and develops a joint proposal for a solution. The focus is on real work situations and problems that are solved in a “learning” manner.

During the implementation phase, the group meets at regular intervals and jointly evaluates the procedure to date and the proposed solutions. Action learning is thus a special form of “learning by doing” that places particular emphasis on exploring problems practically and only incorporating necessary theoretical knowledge when needed.

The advantage of this method is that during the application together the problem at hand is solved and at the same time there is a learning effect for each person. By working out solutions to real problems, the learning effect can be improved.
