3D Project Worlds

Tool for the visual representation of dependencies and for the prioritization of Resources of complex projects.

In many cases, the digital transformation and its individual digitization projects require complex collaboration between different disciplines, departments and teams. In the process, it is often not easy for those involved to gain an overview of the interrelationships, dependencies or priorities.

Janek Panneitz offers a solution with his recently designed method so that the project team and all adjacent stakeholders create a common understanding and maintain an overview during the course of the project. The 3D project worlds are a visual representation of thematic islands within a project that are displayed on a map using hexagons. Depending on the flight level of the project, theme islands can be individual features or entire projects. With the help of bridges, connections between the thematic islands are shown. The number of stacked hexagons reflects the prioritization of the theme island. Different colored game pieces highlight the importance of the theme island to the various stakeholders of the project. Finally, the project participants visualize what they are responsible for with a game piece symbolizing themselves.

The result after the workshop is a shared visual map that allows project stakeholders to see at a glance what they are currently working on, who the key stakeholders are, and how priorities are distributed. If the team creates this understanding right at the beginning, decisions will be much easier in the further course of the project. It also reduces the likelihood that important issues could be overlooked during the course of the project.
