The method is ideally used when there are difficulties in team cooperation or unresolved conflicts arise in the team. This is especially often the case when multidisciplinary teams work together for the first time in Design Thinking projects.

The method uses the model of the six team phases according to Bruce W. Tuckman and facilitates the discussion of different perceptions of teamwork.

According to Tuckman, a team goes through different phases of collaboration in which motivation and productivity vary. These six phases are: Warming (orientation, transparency), Storming (demarcation), Performing (achievement, performance), Informing (networking, visibility), Ending (assessment, appreciation).

With the team thermometer it is possible to visualize and discuss the mood in the different phases.
