Change enerates Resistance

People do not usually look positively at change. Often the first reaction to change is internal resistance. The chart shows the most common reasons for resistance.

Essentially, there are 3 types of resistance here:
– Factual fears (the largest share of fears) – in this is the concern that a wrong decision will be made and the action will have disadvantages for the company or the area.

– Personal fears – therein lies the concern “Will I actually still be needed in the new world with my skills?” or “Can I even acquire the necessary skills?”
– Power- and self-interest-driven resistance – here it is a matter of retaining privileges, securing resources

Guiding questions for working through the resistances:

– “How can we understand what kind of resistance we are talking about?”
– “What course of action would increase resistance?”
– “What course of action might reduce resistance?”
