Espresso Session

Very short learning unit in which a new topic is reported in a condensed manner.

Who doesn’t know it – most information is received in two places in the office: in the smoking area and at the coffee machine! If you want to discuss with business partners, exchange information or coordinate before or after a meeting, the informal atmosphere of a coffee kitchen with the sound of the grinder and the milk frother is the address par excellence. Silos dissolve and ideas emerge through the often unplanned, cross-functional intensive exchange of knowledge.^23 (23 Book – Changement! – Nudge Management – mit kleinen Stupsern schnell zum Kulturwandel, Dr. Wolfgang Freibichler, (Handelsblatt 2017), p.6.) Working multidisciplinarily, exchanging knowledge and networking is essential for the success of the Digital Transformation!

So why not take advantage of systems that already work, such as the exchange point around coffee machines? You can do that with an espresso session! This is a very short knowledge format of about 15 minutes that falls during the coffee break. The organizer invites a small group of up to 10 people for a coffee or an espresso and a speaker gives an impulse on a certain topic – organized coffee drinking, so to speak!

A training session often takes up a lot of time, whereas an espresso session fits into the daily work routine in a very streamlined way and ensures that you have learned something despite the lack of time.^24 (24 Web – https://www.hemsleyfraser.de/espresso-sessions-0, 04/27/2021) In addition, you are not far from your workplace, but still in the same building. At the same time, you get to clear your head by devoting yourself to a completely different topic than the one you are currently working on.
