Documenting impressions from observations, interviews, experiences, or focus groups is an integral part of design thinking. Here, field notes are used as a common tool.

Typically, project participants conduct interviews and pure observations during the observation phase of Design Thinking and also of Lean Startup Innovation. This is an attempt to discover, for example, unresolved problems and unmet needs.

On the one hand, there are purely individual observation days in projects or also the variant that the project participants carry small notebooks with them over a certain period of time in order to be able to record notes at any time.
