The IdeaSedCard is a tool (worksheet in DIN A3 or DIN A2 landscape format) for idea enrichment, idea characterization, early prototyping, idea testing and idea evaluation and was developed over the last five years by Benno van Aerssen. The IdeaSedCard was developed while working with the innovation method Design Thinking. Here, the IdeaSedCard is used in the phase of idea enrichment and early prototyping or testing.

On the other hand, the IdeenSedCard also helps people and teams who work in corporate cultures in which decisions about ideas are always made too early and too short-sightedly – or in which idea enrichment generally does not work. Experience shows that too many good preliminary ideas fall by the wayside.

In addition to its use in innovation projects, however, each employee can also use the IdeaSedCard individually to increase the likelihood that his or her own ideas will be heard more by his or her supervisor and colleagues.

Probably the greatest benefit of the IdeenSedCard is that it integrates colleagues into the process of creating one’s own idea, providing the much-needed intrinsic perspective on the idea. Thus, this tool also pays off in the development of innovation culture. People who are part of the creation process of an idea suffer much less if at all from the “Not Invented Here” syndrome.

In general, the IdeaSedCard wants to query how other people perceive the ideas – it does not ask the reader to make a worthless yes/no decision. It is important in this early test, for example, to uncover misconceptions that the idea still holds – to make or discover mistakes early.

The IdeaSedcard is usually a DIN A3 sized form and is provided as a Word document by the verrocchio Institute. Only the description and title fields need to be filled in by the author of the idea – all other fields are then edited and filled in by the readers of the IdeasSedCard.

The form contains the following fields:
– the title/name of the idea
– the description of the idea
– the five characterization displays
– the realization time scale
– the Visual Quick Assessment
– the field for suspected obstacles
