Rapid Product Development (RPD) delivers rapid results in the search for solutions through an evolutionary approach.
The core of Rapid Product Development is the parallel development of alternative solutions. Iteration cycles are used to make timely adjustments to changing market conditions, among other things.
Alternative solutions compete with each other in rapid product development. The goal is to find an ideal solution within the shortest possible time. In accordance with the “survival of the fittest” evolution model, previously set benchmarks (cost, durability, function, appearance, etc.) determine the individual solution variants and the selection for the final development phase.
An important aspect of rapid product development is the creation and testing of simple prototypes. These are produced within a very short time and without high costs. They are used to test assumptions at an early stage and to be able to discard them without major budget or process losses. The focus here is on recognizing the advantages and disadvantages of an idea. Therefore, a high level of detail or a longer shelf life is waived.
